'Open Door' Policy with a Closed Mind? May as well close the door, and lock
it!
To close one's mind to other people's interpretations of the one situation is unwise if an important decision is to be made regarding that situation. People have opinions, and their own views of a situation, and it's very rare to find them
identical.
For managers, to make important decisions without getting input from other people involved, is the same as not searching out all the alternatives when a major purchase is planned. Would you do that?
Opinions are always coloured, influenced by personal preferences, and often well adrift from the
facts.
"A way of seeing … is a way of not
seeing."
People do not volunteer testimonial letters. Yet when you ask for one they are more than obliging … but you need to
ask!
