The WebSmartIdeas aims to promote and disseminate good creative ideas to improve
society.
- Disproportionately Positive:
Leads to complacency and recipient inflated sense of worth. This can often lead to a prima donna attitude and feelings that the team is letting the individual down. Other team players resent favouritism. This can also lead to thinking "I don't have to be so good, I won't work so
hard"
- Disproportionately Negative:
Leads to despondency, low self-esteem and a likely short tenure. Imagine how disheartening it would be when you are trying your best and it's never good enough. This is likely to point towards poor employee selection … a selection problem, not an employee
problem.
- Balanced Comments:
Employee gains a realistic understanding of how they are performing without a formal appraisal. They need to hear both sides of the story, praise where praise is due, and problems pointed out when they occur. They need to be encouraged to respond in the same way. This more open and honest employer/employee relationship also tends to promote two-way loyalty within an organisation. They will become more inclined to seek to improve
performance.
